TUNE TONE TOON

TUNE TONE TOON

“Don’t search for me.
I’m busy gathering rainbows inside my closet. Just enjoy my paintings—they’re a lot friendlier than I am.”

Tune Tone Toon is a delightful mystery roaming the contemporary art scene. Appearing out of nowhere near Yogyakarta, he feels like a cartoon character who has run away from his own canvas. No one knows his true identity or where he originally came from. He’s like a colorful, mischievous ghost who loves playing hide and seek. He only communicates through quirky and endearing messages tucked within his paintings.

Tune Tone Toon believes an artist should vanish so that his works can play freely with their audience. He doesn’t want people fussing over the artist — he wants them to laugh, feel puzzled or sigh in wonder at the paintings themselves.

To him, painting is like stirring dreams, music, and cotton candy into one. He refers to his process as “tuning the colors” — finding combinations that make people smile for reasons they can’t quite explain.
